Lever House Lobby Gallery | Posted: 2007-04-09 |
Mitchell-Innes & Nash is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by Enoc Perez at the Lever House Lobby Gallery from April 2 through May 20 2007.
The four large-scale paintings were commissioned from the artist by the Lever House Foundation and are on view in the Lever House lobby, located at 390 Park Avenue, at 53rd Street. All four works depict the Lever House building, the architectural landmark designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill in 1952. Perez has created versions of the building at night, during the day, in black-and-white and in gold. Following the exhibition, the works will join others in the Lever House Art Collection. Perez works using a unique method in which he transfers paint onto canvas via an intermediary layer of paper. He builds the composition by hand in 10 or more individually-applied layers of oil paint, color by color. This process, similar to mechanical printing, preserves the lush textures and nuanced surfaces of painting without the use of a brush. Enoc Perez was born in Puerto Rico in 1967. He received an M.F.A from Hunter College and a B.F.A. from Pratt. He has exhibited widely in museums and galleries in the Americas and Europe since the 1990s, including solo shows in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Cologne. He will be the focus of a major solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, opening in December 2007. Perez lives and works in New York. He is represented by Mitchell-Innes & Nash. The Lever House Lobby Gallery 390 Park Avenue at 53rd Street Monday – Friday: 7 am – 7 pm Saturday: 8 am – 1 pm Tel: (212) 421-7027 | |
