Additional group exhibitions: Jen Bekman Gallery "A New American Portrait", June 2007-August 2007 A New American Portrait features photographs by Christine Collins, Jen Davis, Benjamin Donaldson, Amy Elkins, Peter Haakon Thompson, Todd Hido, Alec Soth, Brian Ulrich, and Shen Wei. Their portraits, environmental, posed, and self-portraits among them, express the wide range of practice in modern American portraiture. Mr. Colberg observes: “A portrait lives in the interaction between the photographer and the sitter, a relationship which banishes any notion of objectivity. The work included in this exhibition explores, and at times exposes, this fragile intriguing dynamic.” Bio: Amy Elkins was born in 1979 in Los Angeles, CA. She received a BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts, NYC in May of 2007 Her work has been showcased in PDN, American Photo, EyeMazing, Dear Dave,NY Arts Magazine,FLAXphoto, Conscientious, ‘Constance: Replicas and Replacements’ and Garth Risk Hallberg’s ‘A Field Guide to the North American Family’. Editorially Elkins has shot for New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, Corduroy and Out. She has been a guest lecturer at School of Visual Arts and Parsons. Elkins photographs have been shown in group exhibitions across the world, including PIP International Photo Festival in Pingyao, China, Gallery Gagopa in Masan, South Korea, Gallery Elsa in Busan, South Korea, 3rd Ward Gallery in Brooklyn, Jen Bekman Gallery, PEER Gallery and the Visual Arts Gallery in New York City. Her work has received press from New York Magazine as part of the Affordable Arts Fair 07 in New York City. Elkins currently works and resides in New York City. | |
