Hartshorne's paintings unbalance viewers' perceptions of time and space. His most recent work combines elements of differently designed interior spaces containing mis-matched and mis-aligned elements to create a single habitat that seems to transcend time while simultaneously functioning as a haven against the chaos of the outside world. This world can be glimpsed through reflections in mirrors, panoramas filling up windows, and "cracks" in the interior space, all of which seem to defy the time-space continuum and transform his canvases into deranged dreamscapes.
He made his solo debut at RARE last season, and he will have his second one-person exhibition next season. The publisher Richard Ekstract, has written a six-page article with images that will appear in the premiere issue of one of his magazines, Verdant. |
