In her new body of work, Yoon explores familiar themes and new material. As a Korean raised in Korea and Japan with some schooling in Germany, the influences of her past are diverse. She works to find integration through painting. Not a wholeness but rather a patchwork of disconnected elements brought together on a canvas.
Currently Yoon is entranced with rice paper, fascinated with its fragility. She uses unexpected mediums on it, Japanese inks, gel mediums, wine; she even burns it, making her relationship to this vestage of her past more complex. Yoon creates work from the heart; she embraces psychology, her emotions. Her work is generous and without pretense. She has lived and worked in San Francisco | |
