Each installation by Magda Tóthová tells a story. In her works, she uses the space to recreate a fantastic world where it is possible to move in, to get lost and find the beginning again. Tóthová’s minimal interventions ironically focus on moments denoting an unconventional reading of social paradigms.

In the current show, the space is filled by a big spider web. Years ago, a spider left it after an environmental disaster. Only a gen of a woman passing by the cobweb is left by an accident on the surface of the web, but this was enough for a new tiny society to be born within the overleft structure. Now, an unknown faces with this new world, and well organized everyday life seems to be in danger. There are different universes, sensations and feeling. How to go on? Is the spider web a bolt-hole or a trap? And what is the real reason to be terrified?

The artist represents the fear. Moving from a fantastic situation, Magda Tóthová tells a story of a society scared by what is different and not instantly understandable.

Magda Tóthová (Bratislava, 1979) participated in the Bratislava Biennale. She exhibited her works in the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis, Tate Modern, London, Haunch of Venision, London, The Renaissance Society, Chicago, Curator Space, London, Stella Art Gallery, Moscow and Galerie Andreas Huber, Wien.
